Geoff McFetridge – US AS A LOGO

Currently on view at V1 Gallery (June 10 – July 9, 2011) in Copenhagen, Denmark, is artist / illustrator Geoff McFetridge’s solo exhibition of recent paintings and drawings. The exhibition marks McFetridge’s Scandinavian debut for the Los Angeles-based artist who has worked in a variety of media including animation and has done the title sequences for the films Virgin Suicides, Adaptation and Where the Wild Things Are. His recent work included in US AS A LOGO feature paintings of people, mostly women, whose figures are both abstractly and simply expressed as a possible representation for a logo concept. McFetridge describes the work as a “visual language devoid of contecxt, yet proposing to mean something concrete.” Perhaps that is why some of his best work featured in the exhibit are two similar paintings featuring of a group of people in an embrace from the perspective of looking down at their heads. McFetridge had actually worked on this concept as a possible logo for a company but did not get hired for the position as their designer. Visit V1 Gallery’s website for further details.
